15 Can’t-Miss Things to Do Around Raleigh, Wake Forest & the Triangle This July
July is one of my favorite months to be in the Triangle.
Between Fourth of July celebrations, outdoor concerts, baseball games, local markets, and long summer evenings, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy everything our area has to offer.
Whether you’re new to the area or you’ve called the Triangle home for years, here are 15 events and experiences worth adding to your calendar this month.
1. Celebrate Independence Day Across the Triangle
July 3-4
From fireworks and parades to live music and family-friendly celebrations, communities throughout the Triangle are going all out for Independence Day.
A few local favorites include:
- Raleigh’s First in Freedom Festival & Parade
- Durham Bulls Fourth of July Fireworks
- Cary’s Independence Day Celebration at Koka Booth Amphitheatre
- Wake Forest’s Fireworks Spectacular on July 3
If you’re only choosing one weekend to get out this month, make it this one.
2. Friday Night on White
Friday, July 10
6:00–9:00 PM
Downtown Wake Forest
If you’ve never experienced Friday Night on White, this is your sign.
Downtown Wake Forest transforms into one giant block party with live music, local restaurants, food trucks, and thousands of people enjoying a summer evening together. This month’s featured band is Love Tribe, known for keeping the crowd dancing all night.
Bring a chair, grab dinner downtown, and enjoy one of Wake Forest’s best traditions.
3. Catch a Durham Bulls Game
Multiple Home Games Throughout July
Durham Bulls Athletic Park
Nothing says summer quite like baseball.
Whether you’re there for the game, the ballpark food, or the post-game fireworks, a Durham Bulls game is always a great excuse to spend an evening in downtown Durham.
4. Midtown Beach Music Series
Thursday Evenings
6:00–9:00 PM
Midtown Park at North Hills
Live beach music, lawn chairs, and a beautiful summer evening?
Yes, please.
The Midtown Beach Music Series continues through July and has become one of Raleigh’s favorite free concert traditions.
5. Explore Downtown Wake Forest
Even if it isn’t Friday Night on White, downtown Wake Forest is worth visiting.
Spend an afternoon browsing local boutiques, grab lunch or dinner at one of the many locally owned restaurants, and finish with dessert or a local craft beer.
Sometimes the best days don’t need an itinerary.
6. Browse a Local Makers Market
Throughout July, you’ll find artisan markets popping up around:
- Raleigh Iron Works
- Fenton in Cary
- Downtown Raleigh
These markets are one of my favorite ways to support local businesses while discovering handmade goods, fresh treats, and unique gifts.
7. Enjoy an Outdoor Movie
Several Triangle communities continue their outdoor movie series throughout July.
Bring a blanket, pack some snacks, and enjoy a movie under the stars at places like Downtown Cary Park and Moore Square. WRAL’s July calendar also highlights several community movie nights throughout the month.
8. Spend the Day at Dorothea Dix Park
Whether you’re flying a kite, having a picnic, walking the trails, or simply enjoying the skyline views of downtown Raleigh, Dix Park is one of the best places to slow down for an afternoon.
Bonus points if you catch one of the park’s seasonal events.
9. Visit the North Carolina Museum of Art
The museum is always worth visiting, but don’t skip the outdoor Museum Park.
The walking trails, sculptures, and open green spaces make it one of the most relaxing spots in Raleigh during the summer.
10. Cheer on North Carolina FC or the NC Courage
Summer soccer is in full swing at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or simply looking for a fun evening out, the atmosphere is always fantastic.
11. Explore Moore Square’s Summer Events
Moore Square continues hosting markets, movies, and community events throughout July.
One event I’m especially looking forward to is the First Friday Market & Movie on July 3, featuring local vendors followed by an outdoor showing of Hamilton.
12. Take in a Summer Concert
July is packed with major concerts coming through Raleigh.
Whether you’re headed to Carter-Finley Stadium or one of the area’s many live music venues, there’s something for just about every taste this month.
13. Support Local Restaurants
Summer patios are officially in season.
Take advantage of the longer evenings by trying somewhere new in:
- North Hills
- Downtown Raleigh
- Five Points
- Wake Forest
- Downtown Durham
Some of the best nights start with a reservation you almost didn’t make.
14. Get Outside
Before the July heat really settles in, spend a morning exploring:
- Umstead State Park
- Falls Lake
- Historic Yates Mill County Park
- Neuse River Greenway
The Triangle offers no shortage of beautiful outdoor spaces just minutes from home.
15. Simply Enjoy Where You Live
One of the things I love most about living in the Triangle isn’t just the homes; it’s the lifestyle.
It’s Friday evenings listening to live music in Wake Forest.
A spontaneous Bulls game after work.
Coffee on a patio in Raleigh.
Walking through a local market on a Saturday morning.
Those little moments become the memories that make a place feel like home.
Make the Most of July
Whether you’re celebrating the Fourth, dancing at Friday Night on White, spending an evening at the ballpark, or simply discovering a new favorite local spot, July is one of the best months to enjoy everything the Triangle has to offer.
And if you’re thinking about making a move or simply looking for the perfect neighborhood to match your lifestyle, I’d love to help you find it.
See you around town!
