Illuminating Our Community:
Wake Forest’s Public Power Week 2025

As the crisp days of autumn approach, Wake Forest shines a little brighter—in more ways than one. From October 5–11, our town will celebrate Public Power Week, an annual occasion that honors the value, reliability, and community commitment behind our locally owned electric service.

At Southern Lux Living, we’re proud to call Wake Forest home—so it’s only natural for us to spotlight events that uplift neighborhoods, support residents, and celebrate the infrastructure that keeps our lives humming day in and day out.

Why Public Power Matters

Wake Forest Power (WFP) is more than just the utility that brings electricity to your home—it’s a community-owned service that has served our area since 1909. Because WFP is municipally operated, it reinvests in local infrastructure, strives for transparency, and keeps the community’s best interests at heart.

In fact, WFP supplies nearly 9,000 residential and commercial customers, maintaining more than 95 miles of overhead electric lines. Their dependability is notable—residents enjoy power ~99.9% of the time under normal conditions.

Public Power Week is a chance to shine a light—literally and figuratively—on how critical reliable power is to every facet of daily life, from charging our devices and keeping HVAC systems running, to powering lights during quiet family dinners.

What’s Happening During Power Week 2025

The Town of Wake Forest and WFP have planned a full slate of events and incentives to engage residents and show appreciation. Here are highlights you won’t want to miss:

1. Enter to Win Free Electricity

Yes, you read that right! Residential customers can earn a chance at free electricity in October by participating in one (or both) of two options:

  • Complete the Public Power Week Trivia Contest — the answers are all on the Wake Forest website. If you get all 10 correct, you’ll be entered into a drawing for free electricity.

  • Donate at least four nonperishable items to the Mini Pantry at H.O.P.E. House and drop them off at the Customer Service counter in Town Hall.

The deadline is 4 p.m. Thursday, October 9, and winners will be announced Friday, October 10, on WFP’s Facebook page.

2. Savings for Seniors Bingo — Oct. 7

Wake Forest-area seniors are invited for a fun, interactive bingo morning (10:00–11:30 a.m.) at the Wake Forest Center for Active Aging (235 E. Holding Ave). The event will weave in energy-saving tips and include prizes from local merchants.

3. Customer Appreciation at Town Hall

Each day during Power Week, Town Hall’s lobby becomes a mini celebration:

  • Popcorn and giveaways for visitors

  • Staff ready to answer questions about WFP’s programs (e.g. rebates, service options, energy audits)

It’s a great opportunity to stop by, say hello, and learn more about your local utility in person.

4. Social Media & Awareness Posts

WFP will post daily updates, trivia hints, and Power Week highlights on its Facebook page—all week long. If you’re active online, this is a place to stay engaged and informed.

5. Local Businesses Supporting the Cause

Several Wake Forest businesses have generously donated prizes for Power Week, including:

  • Quality Plus Automotive

  • Chick-fil-A Wake Forest

  • Marquee Cinemas Wakefield Commons 12

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes — Wake Forest

  • Galaxy Fun Park

  • Hill Ridge Farms

  • ISI Elite Training

  • Polar Ice House

  • House of Sports NC

  • Planet Smoothie

  • Texas Roadhouse

These local partnerships reinforce the community spirit behind Power Week.

How This Connects to Homeowners & Buyers

As a local Realtor and someone passionate about elevating our community, I see several wonderful synergies between Public Power Week and real estate:

  • Energy Efficiency Awareness. Events like the bingo for seniors help spread knowledge of ways homeowners can save on energy—smart thermostats, insulation, LED lighting, etc. A more efficient home is more attractive to buyers.

  • Transparency & Trust. Knowing your utility is municipally run can be a selling point. It’s one of the tangible benefits of living in a town with strong local governance and infrastructure.

  • Community Engagement. A home isn’t just walls and a roof—it’s part of a neighborhood. Events like these foster local pride and connection, making Wake Forest more desirable to new and existing residents.

  • Showcasing Local Roots. As someone who lives, works, and invests in Wake Forest, I believe in promoting events that bring value to neighbors. When you choose me as your REALTOR®, you’re not just getting a transaction partner—you’re working with someone who cares deeply about our town’s growth and quality of life.
