Celebrate Community and Tradition with Wake Forest’s Upcoming Events

Memorial Flag Raising Ceremony

July 8, 2024, Monday, 11:00 A.M. Wake Forest comes together to remember the sacrifices our fallen warriors and their families made on the first Monday of every month from April through October. The Town of Wake Forest, in association with regional veterans’ organizations, is organizing this emotional ceremony, which is scheduled for 11:00 AM at Centennial Plaza.

Each Wake Forest Fire Department Honor Guard performs ceremonial flag-raising, memorial wreath-laying, patriotic music, and special comments at the ceremony. The raising of the service flag, which represents the honoree’s military branch, marks the ceremony’s conclusion.

These flags will fly in remembrance during the entire month. Ever since the inaugural event in 2014, celebrating U.S. Walter “Ervin” Cole, an Army veteran of World War II, started this custom, which has developed into a beloved local occasion. The public is cordially welcome to come and show their support.
